If “data is the new oil”, data science is the refinery that transforms data from a raw material to the fuel that drives the world’s economy.
In this 6-week part time evening course, you will learn the building blocks and tools that will empower you to take massive raw data sets and extract valuable insights and data visualizations that bring the data to life. You will learn to manipulate data using various Python libraries while working in Jupyter Notebooks. You will be introduced to common algorithms and techniques for analyzing data and be introduced to the concepts and tools that are used to implement machine learning.
The classroom and learning environment is designed to be practical and allow students to quickly apply their new skills to real world problems and work with real datasets.
Data Science consists of the exploration of data, from a microscopic level, and being able to piece it together to form valuable insights. Data Scientists generally have a mind for math and statistics, but are also able to formulate the data with an artistic approach so that others within their teams and companies can make good use of it.
There are 2.5 quintillion bytes of data produced daily, leaving massive room for improvements in efficiency for companies to take advantage of. Harvard Business Review even labelled Data Science as the sexiest profession of the 21st century. Despite this, 100's of thousands of Data Science job listings go unfulfilled each year. The problem? There simply aren't enough qualified candidates to take advantage of these roles.
Enthusiasm for numbers and creative interpretation aside, the essential Data Scientist also has a familiarity with todays most useful core languages, such as SQL, Python, and R.
Machine Learning is the use of algorithms to allow machines to be able to learn and adapt through the use of data input. If you use social media or shop online, you are probably familiar with Machine Learning already, whether Facebook has asked if you wanted to be tagged in a photo or you've been recommended products based on your past shopping habits.
Machine Learning is an essential component to much of the technology hyped up for the near future, such as image recognition, chatbots and AI use cases.
